The Eagle Harbor Citizens Association is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all members of our community, including people with disabilities. We strive to provide a digital experience that is usable by everyone, regardless of ability or technology.

1. Conformance Standard

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide variety of disabilities.

2. Accessibility Features

This site is designed with the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements are reachable and operable using only a keyboard
  • Skip-to-content link — lets keyboard and screen reader users bypass the navigation
  • Semantic HTML landmarks — header, navigation, main, and footer are properly labeled for assistive technology
  • Descriptive alt text on meaningful images; decorative images are hidden from screen readers
  • Visible focus indicators on all links, buttons, and form controls
  • Color contrast meeting WCAG AA ratios for normal and large text
  • Responsive design that adapts to mobile, tablet, and desktop screens, and supports zoom up to 200%
  • Reduced-motion support — animations are minimized when your operating system requests it
  • ARIA labels and live regions on dynamic components such as the site search and navigation menu
  • Site search with full keyboard support, available via the navigation bar or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl K (or ⌘K on Mac)

3. Assistive Technology Compatibility

This site is tested with current versions of the following assistive technologies and browsers:

  • NVDA and JAWS screen readers on Windows
  • VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
  • TalkBack on Android
  • Recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge

4. Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Known issues we are actively working to resolve include:

  • Some PDF documents (such as historical archives and meeting minutes) may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We are working to remediate or provide accessible alternatives.
  • Embedded third-party content (Google Calendar, Google Maps) may have limited accessibility features that are outside our control.
  • Older photographs in the gallery may have limited descriptive alt text where historical context is incomplete.

If you encounter content you cannot access, please contact us — we will provide the information in an accessible format on request.

5. Feedback and Requesting Accessible Content

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, or if you would like to request information in an alternative format, please contact us:

We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within five business days and to resolve substantive issues as quickly as reasonably possible.

6. Ongoing Improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We periodically audit this site, update components to follow current standards, and incorporate feedback from community members. Significant accessibility improvements are documented in our site changelog.

7. Formal Complaints

If we are unable to satisfactorily resolve an accessibility concern, you have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
